The Ochsenturm in Oberwesel, a town in Rhineland-Palatinate on the Middle Rhine in the Rhein-Hunsrück district, is part of the remaining medieval city fortifications. Next to the Round Tower of the city of Andernach, the Round Tower was the strongest defensive tower of the city fortifications in the region at that time and was built in the middle of the 14th century. It is one of the 16 remaining 22 defensive towers in Oberwesel, which were created in several construction phases and belonged to a city-encompassing ring wall. Today, it is considered to be the best-preserved city wall on the Middle Rhine.
